Blood Tests Now Available!

Dr. Yim is excited to announce that a wide range of blood tests will now be available through our clinic.

 

The tests include:

  • ABO/Rh typing (especially important for people following the Eat Right For Your Blood Type diet),

  •  liver enzymes (to monitor liver damage),

  •  C reactive protein (inflammatory marker associated with cardiovascular disease),

  •  ferritin (storage form of iron),

  •  free T3 and T4 (the actual thyroid hormones),

  •  homocysteine (another contributor to atherosclerosis),

  •  insulin (if elevated can indicate insulin resistance, a predisposition for type 2 diabetes),

  • omega 3 fatty acid, vitamin D, and much more.

Blood Allergy Testing for Foods

 

One test that Dr. Yim is very pleased to offer again is blood allergy testing for foods.  One sample of blood can test for both immediate as well as delay food allergies.  Two panels of foods can be tested; one consists of 96 common foods and the other consists of 95 foods commonly found in a vegetarian diet. 

 

For people who are squeamish about giving too big of a blood sample or for young children, a wonderful new test called the AllerGSpot test merely requires a few drops of blood to be collected to perform this test.  Once again 96 common foods can be tested, but this tests only delayed food allergies (most immediate reactions can easily identified once delayed allergies are eliminated from the diet). 

 

The main benefit of doing the blood allergy testing is that only true allergies will be identified by looking in the blood sample for the actual antibodies against specific foods.  This provides greater motivation for one to avoid the foods that test positive when one knows that these foods are negatively impacting the immune system.

 

All blood draws can be done at any LifeLabs location in Nanaimo with a requisition from Dr. Yim (patients are billed by our clinic). Rocky Mountain Analytical in Calgary does the actual testing.  This is one of the first accredited medical laboratories in Canada that does blood testing for patients of naturopathic physicians.
