Whole Body Detoxification Program
One of the greatest challenges to our ongoing good health is the onslaught of toxins we face on a daily basis. Toxins are any substances that have a harmful effect on the body. Unless these toxins are dealt with appropriately, poor health and eventually disease can result.Exotoxins come from external sources: herbicides, pesticides,insecticides, food additives, solvents, plastics, drugs, air pollution, heavy metals like lead and aluminum, alcohol, cigarettes smoke, and allergens are a few examples. Endotoxins come from inside the body: metabolites like homocysteine, lactic acid, andurea, waste products from intestinal bacteria and fungi, free radicals, and so on. When the body is not able to break down and eliminate toxins quickly enough, symptoms can begin to appear.
The symptoms may include: fatigue, headaches, irritability, depression, joint pain, muscle aches,allergies, constipation, nausea, rashes, and
bad breath.
Eventually, the toxins can overwhelm the body and then health conditions will result. These conditions can range from: acne, boils, eczema, frequent colds and flus, sinusitis, gout, kidney or gall stones, hepatitis, cirrhosis, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s, dementia,and cancer. In order to maximize one’s health and wellness it is imperative to lower the toxic burden on the body. This can be accomplished through regular detoxification. Detoxification simply means the process of removing poisons or toxins from the body. The key to a successful detox is improving the function and cleansing specific areas of the body.
These include the lymphatic system, blood, liver, kidneys, bowels, lungs, and skin.Toxins are transported to the liver by the lymphatic and circulatory systems.
The liver breaks toxins down into water or fat-soluble substances. Water-soluble toxins leave the body primarily through the kidneys and fat-soluble ones leave via the colon.The skin is also a major excretory organ, releasing both water and fat-soluble toxins through sweat. Finally, gaseous toxins leave the body through the lungs.It is my belief that all adults should do a detox at least once or twice and year. Spring and fall are the best times do a detox. Begin by making adjustments to the diet such as only eating fresh, organic fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant proteins (products from beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds).For some folks, this alone is a form of detox. In some cases, a little organic meat, fish, or protein powders may be permitted if a person has a challenge with losing too much weight on a strictly vegetarian diet. Also, do an “oil change” by taking 2 tablespoons of flaxseed, hemp seed, or an essential oil combination. During a detox, one should eliminate food toxins found in animal products like meats, eggs, and dairy, food additives, chemicals used on foods, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, etc.

Blood: water, red clover blossoms, garlic, stinging nettles, dandelion, Oregon grape root, burdock, and yellow dock.Lymphatics: water, cleavers, sauna, exercise (especially rebounding), deep breathing exercises, Lyphosot (homeopathic product available from naturopathic physicians). Liver: organic lemon or apple juice, liver/gall bladder flush, methionine, choline, dandelion root, milk thistle, artichoke, tumeric, licorice, black radish, chelidonium, buplurem, beets, and essential oils. Kidneys: water, parsley, dandelion leaf, corn silk, uva ursi, juniper berries, cleavers, and cranberry. Colon: water, fiber (psyllium or flaxseed meal), essential oils, cascara, aloe, senna, rhubarb root, enemas, colonics, and friendly bacteria. Skin: Water, dry brushing, sauna, essential oils, detox baths (Epsom salt & baking soda in hot bath). Lungs: Deep breathing exercises.
