Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine has been used for thousands and thousands of years by most cultures around the world. Our ancestors discovered that certain herbs could be used to heal different health conditions. The early peoples might not have known why herbs worked, but they did know that certain herbs had specific effects on the body. Even here in North America, up until the early 1900’s, herbs were widely used in healing.

In the last 25 years, more and more scientific research has been done to confirm the therapeutic effects of herbs (most studies done in Europe and Asia). Researchers have identified and isolated many plant compounds that have healing potential. These studies are validating the properties that herbalists have attributed to various herbs through judicious use over thousands of years.

Naturopathic physicians receive extensive training in the medicinal use of herbs. They learn to use herbs to prevent, treat and cure diseases. Herbs can be used to heal wounds, regenerate the liver, prevent macular degeneration, strengthen the immune system, kill parasites, balance the endocrine system and so much more.
