I know it sounds simple: you sit down, focus your mind on one thing for a bit and bang, you feel way better, more energized or relaxed. But as you well know sitting for a length of time focusing on one thing is not as easy as it sounds. Kids need you, work calls, the phone rings and the house needs sweeping...again!
Fortunately, somewhere within each of us there is a place to access that offers sanctuary from the noise and distractions of our busy thoughts. Meditation is about finding that sanctuary, that place of calm. And you have the ability to create tranquility any time you choose.
You don't need to tie yourself up in a pretzel or sit for hours contemplating your navel to attain a meditative state of mind. It's just a matter of finding the technique that fits your personality and lifestyle because
everyone can meditate!
Some people prefer movement and choose a form of moving meditation while others use journaling as a path to enlightenment, some may even find
meditating in a group
more effective. In our program Everyone's Guide to Meditation and Self Healing we teach a variety of techniques that access the autonomic nervous system and creativity and insight. The response has been tremendous and very gratifying!
In our clinic we encourage patients to explore meditation as a safe and effective form of proactive healing. As stress counts for over 80% of doctor visits we feel a holistic approach to stress reduction that includes meditation supports our treatment protocols and facilitates the journey to better health.
For those of you who like to listen to a guided practice we have a meditation CD produced and narrated by Beth Yim with music composed by Josiah Tobin. We also recommend the Imrama Institute for their Insight and Focus CD's.
