Vitamin Mineral Therapy
Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients that are essential for life. They act as coenzymes to assist enzymes in regulating many activities in the body from energy production to digestion. Minerals have additional functions such as regulation of muscle tone, balancing body fluids and participating as structural components in things like bones, hemoglobin, and so on. Vitamin/mineral therapy is used to correct deficiencies determined by taking a case history, having the patient fill out a diet diary, by blood testing or by doing a test such as the hair mineral analysis. This form of therapy is also used to treat specific conditions. For example, in a person with recurrent infections, vitamins A, C and E may be prescribed along with zinc and selenium to boost the immune system; for osteoporosis, vitamins C, D and K along with boron, calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, zinc and phosphorous might be given.
